The proper conduct and reporting of research are of paramount importance at the University of Utah as noncompliance can result in severe penalties to the institution and its members. This class will help you identify potential conflicts of interest and the proper way of managing them according to federal regulations, professional standards, and University policies. This class will also help you become familiar with federal regulations, professional standards and University policies regarding research misconduct. The University expects to foster a "culture of compliance" throughout the University research community through heightened awareness and proper education.

At the conclusion of this class, you should be able to:
  • List and summarize federal regulations, professional standards, and University policies regarding:
    • Research misconduct
    • Ethics and compliance obligations
    • Conflicts of interest
  • Describe procedures for investigating suspected misconduct
  • Summarize why proper conduct and reporting of research is important at the University of Utah and how noncompliance can result in penalties to the institution, the individuals, and their reputations.
  • Explain how to manage conflicts of interest
