Class Description: Individuals involved in clinical research budgeting and billing such as principal investigators, clinical research coordinators, financial analysts, and department administrators will benefit from this training opportunity. Participants will learn the framework of clinical research financial management across the life of a study. Key requirements of billing for clinical services in research will be explained including the use of the University Tracking of Clinical Research (uTRAC) system and Epic. Elements of the application and participant tracking processes including Medicare Coverage Analysis (MCA), Protocol Billing Grids (PBGs), study visit registration and charge review, and ePays will be reviewed. Regulatory considerations and institutional policies regarding research clinical services billing, participant reimbursement, document consistency across the study, and available online tools and educational resources will be presented.

Class Duration: Total duration for synchronous classes are approximately 2 hours. Those two (2) hours will be broken down into:

  • A live session which will take approximately 1 hour (45-minute presentation and 15-minute Q&A) and;
  • Pre and Post-work activities which will take approximately 1 hour, in total.
