The Broader Impacts (BI) Workshop is an interactive 2.5 hour hands-on session delivered through Zoom. Researchers will learn about the NSF BI criteria and receive guidance developing innovative public engagement activities to fulfill BI requirements and increase access to science. Participants will apply a process developed by the NSF-funded STEM Ambassador Program (STEMAP, www.stemap.org (Links to an external site.)) to distill their research, personal interests, and experiences to brainstorm BI partnerships and activities that draw upon their research and personal interests. Participants will leave the session with public engagement ideas that will make their BI statement stand out to reviewers. They may attend STEMAP’s semester-long training after this workshop for in-depth guidance to implement BI activities.

Criteria: Completion of the REd Online: Grant Writing Foundation: The National Science Foundation (NSF) is recommended before taking the BI Workshop.
