Full course description

This is a specialized class offered to all new and experienced researchers. You will learn from knowledgeable clinical research administrators the factors crucial to conducting scientifically valid and ethical clinical research and will understand the critical components of good clinical practices. You will gain an overview of how to proceed from a research idea, to an Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved study, to the dissemination of results. Professional standards for Informed Consent will be presented as well as relevant IRB policies and procedures. Sponsor requirements and University regulations regarding clinical trials will be discussed and financial management practices related to budget development, contract negotiation, cost structures and pricing will be described.

At the conclusion of this class, you should be able to:
  • Summarize the guidelines for Good Clinical Practice
  • Explain the principles of informed consent
  • Describe the role of the Institutional Review Board in clinical research involving human subjects
  • Explain how to comply with federal fiscal regulations for clinical research
