This is a REd Synchronous (live) class.
LIVE SESSION: Monday, March 17, 2025, @4:00pm - 5:00pm Mountain Time (US and Canada), Zoom.
Class Description: While academic reading and writing can be challenging even for the most experienced researchers, the highly specialized discourses of our disciplines can be particularly mystifying and intimidating for emerging researchers. This class covers principles and strategies for supporting mentees’ academic literacies, and encourages mentors to recognize and value language expressions. During the live class meeting, we will use case studies to explore issues in the development of mentees’ academic literacies.
Class Objectives: At the conclusion of this class, you should be able to:
- Develop methods of providing effective feedback on researcher writing
- Connect mentees with on-campus resources for research writing
- Identify considerations/implications of mentorship in academic reading and writing for diverse mentees

REd Synchronous classes are taught by subject matter experts and provide both fundamental and advanced skills training in flipped classroom format. To register for upcoming trainings, click here to view our calendar.
Class Duration: Total duration for synchronous classes are approximately 2 hours. Those two (2) hours will be broken down into:
- A live session which will take approximately 1 hour (45-minute presentation and 15-minute Q&A) and;
- Pre and Post-work activities which will take approximately 1 hour, in total.
