This is a REd Synchronous (live) class.
LIVE SESSION: Wednesday, March 19, 2025 @1:00pm - 2:00pm Mountain Time (US and Canada), Eccles Boardroom, College of Engineering.
THIS CLASS IS FOR UNDERGRADUATE & GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY.
Class Description: Currently, it is crucial for universities that use federal funds for research activities to provide training about the responsible conduct of research. This class will provide information to increase your awareness about responsible conduct of research and research integrity. We will identify resources for you on the UU campus, as well as from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and federal Office of Research Integrity to promote research integrity and the responsible conduct of research that you will be able to carry into your career.
Class Objectives: By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Characterize elements of responsible conduct of research (RCR)
- Define research integrity
- Describe areas of research misconduct and differentiate activities to promote responsible conduct of research (RCR) in your discipline
- Articulate impact of research misconduct on science
- Locate resources for you as a student

REd Synchronous classes are taught by subject matter experts, and provide both fundamental and advanced skills training in flipped classroom format. These classes are offered live (currently, via Zoom), wherein participants will attend and participate in the 1-hour live lecture/presentation. Participants will be required to work pre-class and post-class activities outside the classroom. These activities can include: readings, videos, etc.
Class Duration: Total duration for synchronous classes are approximately 2 hours. Those two (2) hours will be broken down into:
- A live session which will take approximately 1 hour (45-minute presentation and 15-minute Q&A) and;
- Pre and Post-work activities which will take approximately 1 hour, in total.
